What Are the Best Tanning Bed Lotions?

There is no dearth of tanning bed lotions available today. The Internet is replete with online shopping stores which sell hundreds of the best tanning bed lotions. Finding the right lotion is not a difficult task, thanks to the World Wide Web. Considering the overwhelming popularity of tanning lotions with women, there are many multi-national cosmetic companies which manufacture lotions of good quality.

What is a tanning bed lotion? In simple words, it is a type of semi-liquid product which is used for getting a ‘tan’. There are many ways of getting tanned. Basking in the sun on a beach is perhaps one of the hundreds of methods used for getting a beautiful tan.

It is important to have a little knowledge about the constituents of a tanning lotion. Most of the lotions contain an ingredient called ‘tyrosine’ (which is actually an amino acid). Tyrosine accelerates the production of a pigment called ‘melanin’ which is responsible for ‘darkening’ of the skin.

Vitamin-E is present in a number of tanning lotions. Vitamin-E is an anti-oxidant that also works against the development of wrinkles. Many lotions also have copper as one of their ingredients. Moreover, these lotions have moisturizing properties which work against the drying effects of the ultraviolet-B (read UVB) rays.

What are the benefits of using a tanning lotion? Well, the benefits are too many to be mentioned. Ultimately, they help in making the skin attractive. Celebrities and models swear by the lotions they use. Needless to say, tanning lotions are popular everywhere.

Tanning bed lotions protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun-rays. Moreover, they also make the skin healthier. Research has proven that women who use tanning or moisturizing lotions have a better skin quality as compared to those who do not apply tanning lotions. It is also important to be careful while choosing a lotion for yourself. There are thousands of brands of tanning products available today.

There are two things to be take care of while buying a tanning lotion – brand name and ingredients. Opt for those lotions which are popular with women. Compromising on price must never be done. A good quality tanning lotion would have copper, tyrosine, vitamin-E and any moisturizing ingredient. There are some side-effects of using tanning lotions too. Excessive use of lotions might ruin the quality of your skin by damaging skin tissues. There is evidence to the fact that excessive use of tanning bed lotions can lead to skin cancer!

You can find these lotions in a number of exciting fragrances. Check out a cosmetic store in your city to find the best tanning bed lotions. They will never cease to impress you. You will definitely make heads turn when you flaunt a sexy tan on your curvaceous body!

Used Tanning Beds – Should You Buy One?

Tanning beds are a great way to keep your skin looking healthy and tan year round. With much of the world putting a large emphasis on looks and superficial qualities, tanning beds have gained a large foothold in the beauty department. However, many people want that great tanned look, without having to spend the time going to a tanning salon. Tanning salons can not only be very inconvenient, they can get pretty spendy. A typical membership can cost several hundred dollars over the course of the year, not to mention the gas and wear and tear on your car.

There are many companies that appease to this crowd and have released home versions for anyone looking to tan in the comfort of their own home. However, as with any luxury item, you’re going to pay for that luxury. If you are purchasing a tanning bed for the sole reason of convenience, and you are in a financial position to, then you should definitely go for it. However, most consumers aren’t willing to shell out thousands of dollars for a small inconvenience. For this reason many people opt to go the used route. Used tanning beds can be a great way to get a tanning bed in your home without breaking the bank. If you’re a smart shopper you can get the same features of a brand new bed, for a steep discount.

Just like car lots, many distributors also offer “new old stock” tanning beds they are clearing out to welcome in the new stock. This can be a great opportunity for anyone on a budget looking to purchase a tanning bed. You can also check the local newspaper, craigslist, or eBay for used units. As with anything, you should check with the previous owners about its past. Used, expensive electrical items can be a nasty commodity if they haven’t been well maintained. For this reason, it is recommended to have a skilled electrician or tanning bed specialist check the bed for any needed repairs or unrepeatable damage.

Fortunately, some used tanning beds (especially new-old-stock beds) will still have a leftover warranty. In this case, be sure that the warranty is transferable and check out the fine print details of the warranty.

Bottom line, used tanning beds can be an inexpensive way to get the convenience of a tanning bed in your own home. However, as with any large purchase, do your homework. The last thing you want is a thousand dollar paper weight sitting in your basement.

Tips for Using Tanning Beds

Tanning beds are a popular way to get that bronze golden tan, year round. They are mostly used in salons or spas, and use banks of fluorescent bulbs to create UV rays to tan the skin. Tanning in a bed is different than tanning in direct sunlight, and precautions should be taken to reduce the risks involved with tanning. Here are some tips for using tanning beds:

You need to determine the maximum amount of exposure you can endure in a tanning bed. Tanning beds come in all different shapes, sizes, and intensities, so it is important to read the owner’s manual about the specific times associated with tanning on that particular bed. By law, the amount of exposure must be printed on the outside of the bed. For the most part, you should not spend more than 20 minutes in any tanning bed, and never use it 2 days in a row.

Using protective gear while tanning is absolutely essential. Your eyelids are extremely permeable to UV radiation, so forget about merely closing your eyes while tanning. Every tanning salon should provide you with necessary goggles. If not, bring your own. Your lips are also susceptible to UV damage and lip balm should be used. Consider also using nose plugs to protect the mucous membranes within the nostrils.

When using a tanning bed for the first time, start off slowly. For example, spend 4-5 minutes for your first sessions, and gradually increase the amount of time over a 3-4 week period until you reach the maximum rated exposure time for the specific bed.

Always use a tanning lotion or sunscreen while using the bed. Specialized tanning lotions are available at any salon and can greatly reduce the risk of UV radiation and cancer. For a smooth, more natural tan, look for products that contain beta-carotene and vitamin A.

If you own the tanning bed, always use a cleaning disinfectant or antibacterial wipe before and after use. Certain diseases and lice can be transmitted by multiple people using the same bed. A well managed tanning salon should always clean the beds before and after use, and some may offer free hygienic wipes for your convenience.

If the bed has internal fans, use them at all times. If not, set up an external fan to blow inside the bed while you tan. Overheating in tanning beds is a common occurrence and should not be taken lightly.

Before using the bed, be aware of the risks and dangers involved with tanning. If you are susceptible to burning and/or have UV sensitive skin, consider using self tanners, or spray tanning booths. Properly used, tanning beds can be a great way to keep your tan all year long!

Tanning While Pregnant – Is it Safe?

Tanning beds can be the source of many risk factors for pregnant women. Of course, any dermatologist would tell you to stay away from tanning beds in the first place. They have the same, of not more, of the harmful UVA and UVB rays as the sun does. An increasing amount of younger boys and girls are getting skin cancer because they do not know (or simply ignore) all of the risks of using a tanning bed.

So, of course there is a concern for expecting moms when it comes to tanning beds. Now it is not just your dermatologist that will warn you to stay away from those tanning beds. Your gynecologist and obstetrician will warn you when you are pregnant as well. If you are expecting and are exposed to tanning beds you are exposing yourself and your unborn baby to excessive heat for a period of time. That is dangerous. You have probably heard that you should not take hot baths when you are pregnant. Laying in a tanning bed is the same thing, if not worse. This exposure to the heat of a tanning bed will raise your body’s overall temperature, which is not good for your growing baby.

It can cause overheating, hyperthermia, deplete the folic acid in your body that is vital for your growing baby, and even add risk factors for your baby.

If you tan while you are pregnant you could be setting your baby up to have spinal malformation, neural tube defects, spinal bifida, and more.

While you are pregnant you are also more vulnerable to getting sunburns, which increases your chance of getting skin cancer. It can also cause your skin to get yellowish, brownish spots or pigments on your skin. You are also risking getting sun stroke from a tanning bed while you are pregnant.

No one has to use a tanning bed for any reason. Some experts say that you can use tanning beds while you are pregnant as long as it is only for short periods of time and that you drink a lot of water – a lot! You should not be in a tanning bed for more than five or ten minutes, and you should not be at the tanning salon every day! Two times a week should be your maximum while you are pregnant.

However, I would recommend that while you are pregnant you completely avoid tanning salons and tanning beds. You do not need to be more tan. Getting tans on a regular basis alone (not just sunburns and sun poisoning) will increase your risk for skin cancer, which can be deadly. Stay alive and healthy for your baby by quitting going to tanning salons. Plus, you will save a lot of money! Stay healthy and natural. You might just stick to avoiding tanning salons even after you give birth to your precious baby!

Tanning Sprays

Women and men alike are striving to have a deep dark tan year round. However, with so many options of the market today, it may be difficult to know which method is right for you. With the fear of skin cancer on the rise, many people are turning to spray on sunless tanners. With the rise in popularity also comes the question of how does a spray tanning booth compare to other tanning options.

Traditionally, if you were looking for that warm summer glow, you spend countless hours lying in the sun. However, nowadays people are avoiding the sun because of the threat of skin cancer. Others are avoiding outdoor tanning simply because it takes a lot of time and is generally very hot.

In the mid 1980s, tanning beds began to rise in popularity. They were a great way to get that sun kissed glow, without sweating in the hot summer sun. They were also great way for people to maintain there summer tan, even through the harsh winters. However, there is still the question of how safe are they? Many claim that you can still get skin cancer from tanning beds. Others argue that since the tanning takes place in a controlled environment, it is much safer.

Another viable option for obtaining that bronzed summer glow is through the use of sunless tanners. A sunless tan can be achieved in a variety of different ways. One of the most common uses of sunless tanners comes in the form of a bottle. Sunless tanners can be found as gels, lotions, creams and misting sprays.

Although sunless tanners can create the desired tan you are looking for, they are sometimes difficult to apply. If they are not applied evenly, they can leave a streaky look. Also, areas such as the back can be difficult to reach and therefore are often missed. When applying a self tanner it is important that you wash your hands immediately, so that your palms do not turn orange.

A tanning alternative that is rising in popularity is spray on tans. Whether you go to a spray on tanning booth or have a tan airbrushed on, is mainly a matter of preference. Both methods have a number of advantages as well as disadvantages.

Airbrush tanning is generally cheaper than a spray on tanning booth. However, it can be a bit messier. Use of a handheld airbrush tanner allows you to tan only the parts of your body you wish to tan. Another advantage to airbrush tanning is with a good technician, he or she can make some of your trouble spots virtually disappear. A spray on tanning booth cannot do this.

Many people like a spray tanning booth for the simple fact it is self-sufficient and no one has to be in the room with you. However, a spray tanning booth can only be found in a salon. A spray on tan normally takes about 10 minutes from start to finish and is generally more natural looking than airbrushed tans. Therefore, you are less likely to look “orange” when you are done.

The SunVision Elite 30 is very durable due to SunVision’s signature “Duramax” material, which puts it among the hardest and most durable tanning beds in the current market. The mainframe of the bed is specifically shaped from aluminum and steel, which not only adds durability and resistance to corrosions, its ease of maintenance is sure to please anyone.

SunVision put “ease of maintenance” first on their elite 30 bed. It features sliding utility drawers that are well-located. This offers easy access to its internal components without having to move or re-position the bed.

The bed is packed with features, and contains all the important features that you would find in expensive higher-end models. It contains the exclusive “speed” tanning bulbs and components, and the “Biotech” tunnel architecture that makes tanning much faster and more efficient. The Biotech theory is very simple but is very effective – the 7+ foot tanning surface is curved, which not only provides a comfy tanning position, but gives you that all-angle tan.

The Elite 30 features state of the art Wolff lamps, which surround you and give you the even bronzed tan that you’re looking for. It features 16 Wolff lamps in the canopy, and 14 inside the bench, offering seamless, all-angle tanning goodness. Another feature is the facial area of the bed. The bulbs are spread out further than the rest of the bed for smoother and wider tanning coverage. With its glossed aluminum reflectors and acrylic sheets, your skin absorbs more of the UV rays, making the tanning session more efficient.

The elite 30 offers superior cooling with the patented ‘Superflow’ system along with “after tan” fans, however if you decide to upgrade your elite 30, you can add additional cooling fans later on. You can even add speakers to the elite 30’s modules for relaxing and enjoyable music while you tan.

The Sunvision Elite 30 retails at around $6,000, however you can find them as low as $4,500 brand new without the facial tanning module. Sunvision retailers offer installments with low or no interest rates depending on the offer at the time. The elite 30, along with any Sunvision bed, comes standard with a limited lifetime warranty, so you can rest assured that your bed is protected should anything happen.

Like all Sunvision tanning beds, the elite 30 does not disappoint. It comes feature packed with options you would only find on higher-end models.

Skin Disorders from Tanning Beds

Tanning can be a great way to keep your skin tanned and beautiful all year long. Unfortunately, tanning beds have been linked to a number of skin disorders. If you plan to tan using an indoor tanning bed, you need to ask yourself if it is worth the associated risks. Here are a few skin disorders from tanning beds that you should be aware of:

Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with skin cancer due to overexposure to UV rays. Although the majority of cases result from too much natural sunlight, don’t be naive and think that you are not at risk when you use a tanning bed. Luckily, skin cancer can be treatable if caught early enough, however most individuals don’t feel the effects of the cancer until it’s already too late. And even if the cancer is treated early on, there is no guarantee your body will respond to the various treatments.

A large risk factor of tanning bed use is the premature aging of skin. Many people who tan indoors on a regular basis find that they have aged prematurely. The skin is sensitive to UV overexposure and loses its elasticity if not taken care of. Symptoms of premature skin aging are the skin will often sag, develop wrinkles, or feel leathery to the touch.

For those individuals who have sensitive or fair skin, you can easily harm your skin if you overexpose yourself to the harmful UV rays emitted by tanning beds. If you don’t tan well outdoors, chances are that you won’t in a tanning bed either. Too often a fair or sensitive skinned individual will burn themselves in a tanning bed even when using the machine at its recommended ranges. The result can end in dry skin, peeling, and painful blistering.

If you take any medications, tanning can cause spotting and associated skin problems. This can be due to certain areas of your skin not able to tan as well as others, and can be determined by the genetic composition in specific areas.

Overexposure to UV rays can lead to the pigment changes of the skin in different areas of your body. This can also be due to the genetic composition of your skin, and will result in an uneven tanning look, and often times severe spotting. They appear mostly on the face and neck areas.

Using tanning beds frequently can permanently change the development of your skin cells. This can result in the skin unable to heal or regenerate as quickly as it normally would, and can make you more prone to certain illnesses and viruses. This is due to the skin not being able to protect you as well as before.

As stated before, tanning can be a great way to keep your skin looking beautiful and tan, however know that you are at risk for certain skin disorders when tanning. The general rule is the more you tan the higher at risk you become of certain skin problems. Be aware that most of the skin disorders listed here will not be noticeable until the irreversible damage has already occurred. To reduce the risk of various skin disorders from tanning beds, use protective gear such as tanning lotion and goggles.
